Make browser research useful to the next decision
Require a browser research agent to show, row by row, which pages and evidence support each conclusion, and to mark what it could not verify.
An agent compares three service providers and recommends one. Every row has a link, but one points to a homepage, another to an old announcement, and the third to a pricing page the agent could not fully load. The buyer has to redo the research before using the recommendation.
A firsthand Browser Use issue reports controls visible in a screenshot that the agent could not identify in a web application. It does not show that browser research fails in general. It shows a practical limit: opening a page and inspecting the relevant part of it are different outcomes.
Specify the decision before opening tabs#
Give the agent a narrow question, such as whether a supplier meets the team's data-export requirement. Define the criteria, acceptable sources, geography, plan, and date sensitivity. “Research the best supplier” invites a broad essay whose ranking hides unagreed assumptions.
For a scheduling service, have the agent compare the two requirements that decide fit, historical booking export and team structure, before any polished list of unrelated features.
Use primary documentation for product behavior and terms. Community questions reveal difficulties to investigate, but a customer's old report must not become a statement about current availability. Label it a reported experience, then verify the current condition in the vendor's maintained material.
Ask for evidence at the row level#
| Decision criterion | Finding | Evidence the reviewer needs |
|---|---|---|
| Historical export | Supported for the relevant data | Specific documentation section |
| Team structure | Depends on the purchased plan | Plan-specific source and date |
| Required region | Not established | Pages inspected and unanswered question |
| Migration effort | Estimate with assumptions | Data volume and proposed method |
Put the source beside the claim it supports, because a list of links at the end of an essay does not tell a reviewer which sentence came from which page. Quote briefly and exactly when wording matters; otherwise summarize and make the inference visible.
For changing information, record when it was checked and where to find the passage again: page title, section, and version. Follow your organization's retention rules for saved excerpts; keep a usable reference, not a copy of every visited page.
Separate missing evidence from a negative finding#
An agent that cannot find export documentation reports support as not established, never as impossible. The next step is to search the vendor's official reference, inspect the correct product edition, or ask the supplier a specific question.
A successful navigation does not show the agent inspected a table behind a tab or a download. If the page relies on an interaction, verify the resulting content, and when the browser cannot perform it, report that limitation and use another legitimate source.
One source can contradict another because the plan, region, or release differs. Keep those conditions and do not average the answers. An archived help article and current terms do not carry equal weight because both sit on official domains.
Make the handoff cheaper than repeating the search#
The research packet contains the recommendation, the few facts that drive it, unresolved questions, and the next reversible step. A pilot on non-sensitive sample data resolves an open question more directly than another round of broad browsing. State what the pilot would establish and who owns the decision afterward.
If a reviewer finds an unsupported claim, correct the affected row and inspect the conclusions that depend on it. Rewriting only the summary preserves the original error. Save the correction as an example of the evidence this decision requires.
Test a research workflow against a page with a hidden tab, an outdated official article, a missing requirement, and two product editions with different behavior. Success is a comparison that names the gaps and invents no answers.
Give the research a stopping point. After the agreed primary sources have been inspected, return the unresolved requirement as a concrete supplier question, because searching until a favorable sentence appears biases the recommendation. The decision owner needs each requirement marked established, contradicted, or unanswered.
The company can save its reviewed comparison method and source checklist in Deixic company knowledge and keep using its preferred agent. For calls routed through Deixic, activity evidence shows what the agent attempted.
