How Routines works
Hand off the work that repeats.
1Say what to do
Write the task, what Dex should bring back, and where to post the update.
2Choose when it runs
Hourly, weekday mornings, Mondays, your own schedule, or when an event arrives from a connected tool.
3Decide how much Dex does alone
Ask before anything, handle routine actions within limits, or run without asking.
4Set the limits
Cap steps, tool calls, tokens, cost, and runtime per run; Dex skips a run while the last is still going.
Recurring work, under control
- Only the tools you pick
- Each routine lists the tools Dex can use, and nothing else.
- Event data stays in its lane
- A trigger passes only the fields you allow, and the routine's own access and approval rules still apply.
- Pause any time
- Pause a routine and pick it back up when you are ready.
